Smells problem
1991 Mercedes Benz 190e Automatic 200000 miles

I have a 1991 Mercedes 190e 2.3. I went to take it through inspection at the DMV & it failed. They said there's an exhaust leak. I haven't noticed any smell, or smoke, etc. I just got the vehicle, I did notice when I got it that the muffler was hanging a bit low, so I had someone secure it back up. I noticed when I looked at the muffler that I looked rusty. My question is does this sound like amajor repair, or is ot something that I can maybe fix cheaply? I just want it fixed/rigged enough to pass inspection. I got th car real cheap & I'm really just hoping toget 6month to a year out of it. Thanks!

Hi there,

This just may be a gasket problem, but what you will have to do is get the car on a hoist and get a report on what the exact problem is, do this first and report the problem here of more advice.

Hi there,

If there are any cracked flanges you may also be able to get them welded this may save you a few dollars as well.
