Car is new to me. It has 2 cooling fans. The electric aux fan kicks in at 100 degrees. Q. What activates the other engine fan in front of the fan belt housing. Looked at it while idling and it isn't turning. As far as I can see the cooling system consists of the aux kicking on as I don't see what activates the primary.

This motor only turns on when the air conditioning is turned on. If you turn on your a/c and the fan does not come on you could have a problem with the a/c overheating and loosing efficiency. To test you can disconnect the wiring harness by the drivers side headlight. Then disconnect the plug. Then use a ground and a 12 volt positive and touch each to the male plug end that is the end that has the two metal nipples sticking out. If the fan comes on then you have a wiring or sensor issue. If it does not come on or the hot wire melts then you have a short in the windings of the motor. Hope this is helpful. Also, if you have to by-pass you can do this by wiring the unit up to an ignition on hot source and a ground. Remember to have a fused circuit so you don't melt something or cause a fire.
