1987 2.3-16, bought new. The Air Conditioner when started blows cool/cold air throught the ducts, but after a few minutes, the outer/window ducts start blowing warm air and the two center duct are not so cool. The system then toally shuts off and comes back on again and recycles the preceding event. Sometimes, with the "O"(off) button in the "off" position, the fan comes on for no reason? We have tried replacing the push button(may have been used) assembly(#201 830 0785) but the same thing occurs? The shop has a 1986 push button assembly(#201 830 0585), but since the part #s are different, they are afraid the might "fry" some electrical component inside it. HELP!

I drove a 1987 190E for several years before I was involved in a wreck (head on collision, left without a scratch). In any case, the electrical system just seemed to go insane for periods, then start behaving itself again. My relationship to the electrical components in that vehicle was a lot more like that between two humans than that between man and machine.

It was like Herby, I swear. One night I drove it home, no problems, shut it off. Then, at 7AM I hear the alarm. The car had definitely gone untouched all evening. When I went outside, the lights were on, the radio was blasting, and the car was half on. I kid you not, I was the sole holder of the keys. The car actually started itself in the middle of the evening with no human operation!

So, in short, I would say that your A/C sounds like it needs a new fuse. Very inexpensive, and they help the perormance of the heating/cooling system immensely.
