Hello,

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 with 45k miles on it. This car is only driven a few times per month. About a week ago, I noticed the engine noise level had increased significantly and it felt like the car was dragging.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing these problems?

Well there are a few things that could be an issue. The first question is."Is the engine light on?" If it is, have the PCM scanned and find out the code, this we help in the diagnosis of your concern.

Next question. "Is your engine harder to start now ie: does it crank longer and hesitate when started?

When was the last time you checked you oil, or changed it?

Let us know some more details

A clarification on my earlier email the engine noised kicks in after the car exceeds 25 MPH but does not get louder when the speed of the car increases, the sound level remains the same.

Hey Cosmo,

Thanks for stepping into help, I took the car to an autoshop and found out the cause of the problem is a right front wheel bearing. An interesting side note the very same right front wheel bearing was replaced in July so one of two possibilities exist A) the replaced bearing was deffective or B) the part was installed incorrectly.

Either way the car is being fixed as I write this note.

Later.
