'02 Mazda Protege A/C question

I filled my a/c a week ago. I checked it with the guage and it is in the green zone as far as being filled. However, when I turn the selector switch for the fan, (positions 1-4 as far as how hard it blows) only 1 and 4 make the AC light go green and blow cold. 2 and 3 do not activate the AC light. (Yes, the AC button is already pressed in) Is this an electrical issue with my selector switch? Can I test it using a multimeter? I would troubleshoot more myself, but I cannot find a haynes manual for an '02 protege anywhere. And idea where I can find one of those? Thanks!

Oh, anyone else have many issues with one or both of the belts breaking/wearing out constantly?

I opened up my dash and played with the wiring a bit and got the other 2 positions to work for awhile. I think it is bad wiring. They once again don't work. So I am not sure. And I sure as hell am not taking it to a garage for electrical work!
