The dealer has identified a check engine light code 9000A as bank 1 CAT failure. The light had been coming on and off over a period of time, but now stays on permanently.

Is there an aftermarket CAT available for this car? From whom? Is it wise to use an aftermarket item. Very expensive, $1500 CAN for the CAT and $1500 labour from the dealer. Can it be something other than the CAT, oxy sensor maybe?

Hi there,

Your exhaust supplier will be able to sell and install a quality generic catalytic converter, just get a few prices firs so you know how much as an average it will cost to repair. The dealer price you mentioned is absurdly expensive to start with and the converter price sounds over priced as well. What is there justification for this? I would love to know as I am sure you do as well.
