1994 Other Mazda Models

My car engine will start and the lights will turn on and everything just as if it is able to run, but then when I press the gas pedal the engine just revs and the car refuses to move. What is wrong with my car?

My car starts in the morning at 2 rpm but when it hits 1.5 rpm it turns off then it starts again then turns off then it starts again then it stays on it a 1994 mazda protege
