My 89 Mazda mx6 stalled while going 65 and will not start. I have power but the engine will not turn. I do believe the fuel pump is working but am not sure. When the car stalled there was a slight burn smell in the cab but not under the hood.

Hi zamalaska,

Thank you for the donation.

When engine is unable to be started, there are many possibilities and we need to find out what is missing. It could be fuel, ignition or mechanical.

Hope it is not the timing belt as this is an interference engine and a bad timing belt can cause a lot of damage.

I have the link here where you can check the reason for the engine not starting. Let me know what you find out.

The timing idler has seized and melted the belt! Have found no engine damage yet and I'm hoping for the best! Thanks

We will keep our fingers crossed for you, but being an interference engine, it would most likely cause damages to the valves.

Being hydraulic valves, it is not possible to measure the valve clearance to identify bent valves. The next option is to visually inspect the valve height at fully closed position. That might give you an inkling if the valve for that cylinder is bent.
