Hello all
im phil from ireland. I have bought a 1988 mazda 626 2ltr automatic, I have changed coil, distribtuer and cap, plugs and leads, changed all vacume hoses to the carb, new fuel pump, and fuel hoses, the car starts when I take cover off the air filter box, and kills its self when I replace the cover, im loosing my sense of humour with the car now, its a complicated carb, and I dont understand technical information in manual. Please help. Thanks phil

G'Day there,

Just a few things for you to look at.

Vacuum leaks at the manifold gasket and the carby base gasket, With the engine running use a length of small dia hose and have a listen around the gaskets it leaking you will hear it. If the carby has a window in the float bowl, clean down and check the float height, there is a mark on the glass and the fuel should be at that level. (Not all carby have this) there is an idle solenoid in the side of the carby, a round fitting with one wire going to it, with the engine turned off put your finger on the solenoid, have someone turn on the ignition (not start the engine) and you should feel the solenoid click on) re post for more info if required good luck.
