Code p0708. At 45 mph the transmission changes from third gear to od and vice versa. Sometimes the overdrive light blinks. Another times, when I have stoped, the transmission starts in second gear. What do I do? Thank You.

DIAGNOSIS - LA4A-EL -2000 Mazda 626 ES
Page 1 of 2
DTC P0707: TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH SHORT CIRCUIT OR DTC P0708: TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH OPEN CIRCUIT

Condition
DTC P0707 or P0708 is set when PCM detects (after 2 drive cycles) an open or short in TR switch circuit. Possible cause:
* Damaged TR switch.
* Damaged or corroded harness connection.
* Malfunctioning PCM.

Diagnosis & Repair
1. Disconnect TR switch connector. Inspect connector for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Reconnect TR connector. Verify shift linkage adjustment. Ensure TR sensor is correctly adjusted
Adjust as needed and go to step 6. If sensor is correctly adjusted, go to next step.

2. Install TR overlay on transmission tester. Connect tester to TR sensor. Check continuity and resistances in all positions.
If TR sensor does not operate within specification, replace sensor, and go to step 6. If sensor operates within specification, go to next step.

3. Disconnect TR sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Green wire) on TR sensor harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Green wire. After repairs, go to step 6.

4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 104-pin PCM harness connector. PCM is located behind center console. Inspect connector for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Repair as necessary. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure and record resistance between breakout box test pin No. 64 and test pins No. 71 and 97. Measure and record resistance between breakout box test pin No. 64 and ground. If each measurement is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any measurement is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit. After repairs, go to step 6.

5. Measure and record resistance between breakout box test pin No. 91 and TR harness connector terminal No. 1. Measure and record resistance between breakout box test pin No. 64 and TR harness connector terminal No. 7. See TR SENSOR WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION table under DTC P1705: TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH. If each resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance measurement is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit. After repairs, go to next step. 6. Disconnect breakout box and transmission tester. Connect all components. Erase all DTCs.
. Record continuous memory DTCs and freeze frame data. Perform KOEO and KOER self-tests. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If DTC P0707 or P0708 is still present, replace PCM.
