1996 Mazda 626 relays of fuses

My car was making a popping or clicking noise today opened the hood and it is a relay/fuse on the left of the motor opposite of the battery, we unplugged the battery cable and it stopped we took this fuse or relay out that was popping also it ran my battery down what is this piece that is tore up and what is the price range on it it is a gray looking box

That is a relay, one of many that your vehicle has. The price depends on what system the relay runs. Could be A/C, radiator fans, daytime running lamps, fuel pump, horn, main, or starter cut relay. All of those are located in the area you described
