My son has a 1996 Mazda 626 2.0 engine, auto, 134,000, front wheel drive. The oil light came on and when he checked the oil it wasn't low. The light doesn't stay on it just flickers off and on. He changed the oil and filter and the light stayed off for a few min, then when he started down the road it came back on. Hope you can tell us what to do!

Well, several things can be going on. First, your oil pump may be worn and cannot pump the proper oil pressure. Second, there can be so much sludge in your motor that the oil is not flowing freely. Third, and the most likley cause is your oil presure sending unit. I would go ahead and replace the sending unit since it's only a few dollars. But, while your at it you may want to do a manuel oil pressure check since where your sending unit is, is where you would hook up your gauge to check your oil pressure. Your oil pressure sending unit is located next to your oil filter mounted into the engine block. It's a little above you oil filter between the starter and oil fliter.
