Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Mazda 626 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 147000 miles

I was driving on the freeway and all of the sudden I felt a shift from my transmission and the car started slowing down to a complete stop. The check engine light, brake light, fuel light came on and the car shut off. I had a half tank of gas in my car and all the fluids in my car was okay. The car will try to turn over, but it will not get any power. My lights still come on and everything that runs on the battery still work. I am thinking it may be the timing belt or one of the belts that help the car function. Could that be it?

If it has a distributor system-remove the distributor cap and crank engine over-is the rotor turning? If not check the timing belt/chain.

Also disconnect a sparkplug wire and ground it to the engine and have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? Got spark-check the fuel pressure.
