Brakes problem
2005 Mazda 6 Front Wheel Drive Manual 66100 miles

Hello,

I see that you have answered a question or two about Mazda brake calipers, so I wanted to ask for help. I am replacing rear brake pads on a 2005 Mazda6. I have successfully removed the old pads, but I'm unable to retract the caliper piston in order to fit the caliper over the new thicker replacement pads.

Some of the instructions I've read online about doing this state that a special tool is needed to rotate the piston so that it can be retracted (pushed in). I bought this tool and rotated the piston to about 8 different positions, completing a clockwise circuit. At each stop I attempted to push the piston back using channel lock pliers, but it would not move a milimeter. What is the secret to being able to retract the piston? Thanks for any help you can provide.
