I replaced my alternator on my 94 mazda 323 because the charge light came on and I ran on battery. It dfrove for a bout 500 miles and it happened again. Lost all power. After about 5 monutes it started again and the charge light stayed off. Drove it a bit alter and it lost charge again. The battery is new

DaBig - Sounds like you have a ground problem or a short.

Batteries do not recover their charge in 5 minutes if they have been completely drained.

Check that the grounding locations on your engine block and chassis are clean and making good contact to steel/ no rust allowed. Check the battery for parasitic load with a volt meter, sometimes a stuck glovebox or trunk light can drain a battery overnight. Check the alternator for output.
