Lower radiator hose replacement

I replaced my upper radiator hose with no issues after, after I replaced my lower one, I put enough distilled water in to make it to the AutoZone near me for coolant and 3 minutes down the road my temperature gauge was at 85% or so and my car started smoking/steaming, making ticking noises. I heard you have to bleed the system, how would I do that in my car?

This system does not require any bleeding procedure that is different than any other engine which just requires the air to be worked out of it. So systems have bleeder valves but this just requires the system to be bleed. Here is a video that will help with this on a similar vehicle. Clearly this is a 6 cylinder but the process is the same.

However, I am concerned that it was ticking. That is a sign of a greater engine issue. Does it still tick when you start it after it cooled down?

If so, we may have damaged the engine, specifically the heads or valvetrain. Can you get a recording of this noise?

I took it to my shop as soon as it happened worried if I drove it more I would make it much worse. I’m not 100% sure if it was ticking or if it was just the steam but i’m getting it pressure tested at this moment.

Yes, turns out there was a pre existing hole in the radiator and the water pump was leaking. I could have thrown some water in and called it a day.
