Low compression

Low compression on all cylinders. Worn timing chain need to be replaced. The question is this, by changing out the timing chain will that get the proper compression back or will the entire engine need to be replaced?

If you have a worn timing chain that is not going to cause all the cylinders to have low compression unless the timing chain jumped time? How does it run?

It is not running it will not start. When it was running it was running very sporadic no power.

The chain could have jumped that would explain the symptoms. So is there a lot of slack in the timing chain?

It has not been taken off. Took it to the shop and that was their diagnosis. I have gone to two mechanics and one said timing chain replacement other said best to replace the engine. I am confused, I do not know what to do. But I want to do whatever is least cost.
