Loss of power when engine management light comes on

Hi 3 times today my 2.8 crd Auto stalled when the revs were low, engine management light came on. Each time I restarted the car okay but the light remained on. When driving I had full power and the auto box changed without any problems. I arrived home turned the engine off waited a few minutes restarted the car and the light was not showing. My wife then told me this had also happened to her a few days ago. Do you have any idea what may cause this?
I previously had a 2004 grand Cherokee 2.7 crd and the same thing happened to that car but the gearbox would lock down to limp home mode or reverse only, I could never find out why so I part exchanged for the Grand Voyager and now 12 months later this little light is haunting me again.

When the Engine Computer detects a problem, it sets a diagnostic fault code and turns the Check Engine light on to tell you. The place to start is by reading that code. Chrysler makes that real easy to do yourself. Cycle the ignition switch three times within five seconds from "off" to "run" without cranking the engine, leave it in "run", then watch the code numbers show up in the odometer display.

There's over a thousand potential fault codes but only those that could adversely affect emissions must turn the Check Engine light on. When the light is off the next time you start the engine, that means it's an intermittent problem and it has the second lowest level of severity. You still do not want to ignore it though because sometimes minor problems can become serious.

Hi,
I have absolutely the same problem.
When I try to check the error code: done.
We change the EGR and clean the turbo electronic control in the autorized service center.
The problem is not resolved, because the engine light appear again.
After one day disapear again.
The service center guys says "probably" the problem is with the turbo unit.
I don't know how is it possible because in more cases I use the car only in town without any strenuous speed changeings.

If we have any proposals let me know.
Thanks.

You should start a new question. When you piggyback on this one, I'm the only person who will see it and have a chance to respond, and I don't have a good answer for you. That does you a disservice. When you post a new question, all the experts will see it and have a chance to respond with a better answer.
