1999 4.6L V8 Town Car Transmission Slip?

I purchased a towncar about a month ago and it seems that the transmission slips into 3rd gear. It seems like it getsenough RPM for the shift but doesn't. I have to let off the gas and let it pop in. I was told that this might have something to do with a bad/faulty solenoid. How may I figure out what is causing the slip? Thanks so much

I don't know how bad it is, and you may need work, but you can try a tranny flush, go to an oil change place that can pump the old ouyt while pumping the new in without dropping the pan.
