My transmission is slipping, every time usually between 40 and 50 mph. When I turn the overdrive off, it is better, but sometimes slips between 35 and 40 mph. What should I do? Fluid change? Flush? I've heard these can be risky procedures in an older car. The previous owner claimed he put a new transmission in, but I'm sure he could be lying, like he did about so many other things.

I'm not low on fluid. I did put in half a bottle of Lucas No Slip Transmission fluid in though, so I'm not sure if I will be able to tell anything about the fluid, like if it's clean or not. I didn't notice any changes from the Lucas product either.

I have acquired a 1991 Lincoln Town Car. But on my 1998 Audi A8 4.2L. They say it's LIFETIME FLUID. No need to change or check. They even removed the check & fill access under the hood as most vehicles usually have !

Short story. Fairly low cost. Replace fluid & filter ! Maybe add some No Slip tonic as you mention. I did this to the 1998 Audi A8 w/135,000. Was super fouled w/many metal finds on the transmission pan's magnets. Etc. It's running super fine now.

I am scheduling a fluid & filter change on my 1991 Lincoln this spring. It's got only a minor slip after about 2 minutes of run-time. Up to the 1st traffic light. Slips then. Nothing after wards. So the fluid & filter change will be a clean out. The vehicle probably had only 500 miles in the past 10 years. Owners poor health prevented him from giving all of the systems & fluids a good run.I've change all fluids & a few parts except the tranny. Hope this helps
