2000 Lincoln LS 3.9L V-8, 100035 miles. Will start fine and initially runs ok. After driving for a short period of time when coming to a stop and then trying to take off again, it will hardly run at all. It spits, sputters, misses, sometime backfires and doesn't seem to have any power at all. By patting the gas and prompting it some it will eventually pick up speed and go on. Once up to speed (35-60 mph) it will cruise along ok. If trying to speed up in a hurry it wil start siptting and coughing again till you let off the gas and gradually increase the speed. Have replaced fuel filter, both catalytic converters, all oxygen sensors, plugs, map sensor and one other sensor. Diagnostics originally said catalytic converters on threashold and fuel filter. These have been replaced with oem parts. Please help.

My wife's car is doing the same thing as you described. We've had various cylinders replaced, #2, #4 each at different times because the problem was the same each time. It goes along for about 10000 miles and its back again. Its driving me crazy. And what does the service department tell us. It's just something with "these" cars. Aaarrrrggghhh.

Also, the passenger airbag warning came on and the service tech said something must be stuck underneath the seat. Well, after checking and finding nothing he said "all these cars do that at some point".

This is a truly gorgeous car even at seven years old. BTW only 73000 miles.

I'll check back here from time to time as whatever solves your problem most certainly will solve mine.

With those symptoms, I find it hard to believe no codes are present in the computer.

Try cleaning the IAC valve.

Service Writer, what I meant by not having any codes is I do not have them to provide to you and do not know how to get whatever codes are available in the car's computer system.

I see.

You can buy a scanner or code reader.
You can take it to an autozone who will read them.
You can take it to a shop or dealer to read them but there will be charge.

I meant IAC motor, not valve. My fingers sometimes just get carried away.
