Symptoms of a bad knock sensor include a sluggish engine, poor acceleration and poor fuel economy. Knock sensors rarely fail outright and more often get "soft" over time and cause false signals to be sent to the ECU, which thinks the engine is knocking when it's really not. Thus, the ECU will reduce the ignition timing to the engine.
