94 Lincoln Continental. NOT going into gear when running

It will go into gear before you start the car...i had to replace the ignition key cylinder, because the girl i bought the car off of lost the keys....so i had to drill out the old one.so it wasnt an easy fix....i endeed brakeing the tail shaft of the old cylinder inside the colom....and had to take the gear looking thing out...that turns the car on, and starts it. i gues i just cant get the gear back in right.

Brake lights work...brakes work....it will shift in to gear, before you start the car...but not after you start the car. kinda like the gear isnot in right...gear meening the gear for the ignition switch

It has power in run position. Never mind.I looked at the switch, and I guess someone kicked it, and it came on done and was a little bent.I I fixed it and all is good. Thank you very much, I fell like an ass now, im suposed to know this stuff. Many thanks
