Can the heater core be replaced from under the dash on the passenger side or does the dash board have to be removed?

I have an '87 continental, my entire dash needed to be taken apart to replace the heater core. I believe our cars are about the same in construction, if thats the case, then the heater core is way up under the passenger side mat.
