Car went into limp mode and engine management light came on. Was near my garage so limped in at five mph. Their diagnostic thing said it was throttle potentiometer and reset it. Will it happen again, if so how do I prevent it?

The code will come back. The best thing to do is replace the sensor with a new one. This will ensure the code not coming back.

This guide might help you see what you need to do to get the sensor changed out.
