1995 Lexus ES 300 do it yourself freon charge

I am 99% positive that my Lexus needs a simple freon charge! I have heard that there are do it yourself kits. Is there a specific type of freon I need to look for for that make, year and model? Is there somewhere in the car that would tell me such info?
