Actually, on the 92 ES300 the fan motor is hydraulic. It runs off the powersteering pump. If there is not enough fluid/ pressure running to the fan motor your negine will overheat.
My kid's 92 ES300's PS pump bearing seized and he's been driving it with Arms Strong steering. But it overheats cause no ps fluid is turning the fan motor. I'm working on it tomorrow.
You need to figure out why air is getting into the system. The whining sound could be is like air being sucked through a tiny hole. Is fluid being forced back up and leaking through the fill capà ‰
PS. Why on earth would toyota use a hydraulic fan instead of an electric one.`Go figure.
