I had an oil change the other day. Parked my car in the garage as usual, went to work the next day and there was a huge pool of oil on the garage floor. (Garage floor is stain free. Did not have a leak prior to the oil change) I took my car back to the location and was told they think I have a problem with my valve cover gasket. Why wouldn't my car have leaked any oil prior to the oil change? They want me to go to a different mechanic because they can't work on turbo's, so they aren't trying to milk me for more money.  I don't have the money right now for a large repair. Can I drive my car as it is for a month as long as I check the oil every day?

With a massive leak, I would not drive my rig at all!

My thoughts:

Either your oil plug is installed wrong, missing, or a insufficient substitute plug was installed when they muffed up yours.

Or

The filter was installed wrong or the wrong one was installed.

I'd notify the oil changers of the situation and allow them to come look at it.

I'd also advise them if there is any engine damage they caused (plug or filter) or caused from the lack of oil that you will hold them accountable.

Thank you. I appreciate your experience and reply. Just FYI I did go back to the oil change place; they are the ones who told me they think it was a valve cover gasket or something to do with the turbo, but said they can't work on it or repair it because they don't do turbos.

It's kind of funny that this leak occurred only after the oil was changed (or other tinkering may have taken place).

Sometimes coincidences can happen.
