1998 Land Rover Freelander does fan belt run the water pump

Please could you tell me if fan belt runs the waterpump, I know it runs the steering and brakes, just bought freelander and on the way home the fan belt snapped, temp gauge was a bit lower than before it snapped but water started to bubble out of radiator after 2 miles, any advice would be great

It most certainly does run the water pump. One of the main uses for the drive belt!

On the v6 Freelander, the fan, or accessory drive belt does not run the water pump. The water pump is ran off of the timing belt.

DIDN'T SEE THE YEAR. I AM STILL NOT USED TO SEEING NON NORTH AMERICA STUFF IN HERE. I WAS THINKING OF THE V6. SORRY

Easy mistake! We need a better more specific form.

But you are correct with the pump drive. I was wrong on my part.
