1997 Land Rover Discovery V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I just bought my landy and the guy that owned it before me broke the four wheel drive (he broke the front u joint) is it hard to replace and or how?

Hi there,

Replacing universal joints is something that really should be done by a mechanic, you can easily damage the new joint and as they are not that cheap, if you have never done one, I would get a mechanic to do this, if you want to save a bit of money, maybe you can remove the shaft and take that in with the uni.

I was just asking because I found them on Autozone. Com for 12.99 the guy that was driving it siad I broke while he was going do the road and snap it broke it didnt do much damage to the rod or the axel but it did ding up the rod a little at the end. Should I look for a new rod as well?

Hi there,

That uni sound cheap and nasty, I would be looking for a quality uni, the drive shaft can be checked and re balanced, I think this would be cheaper than a new one, may be Ebay is the go for a complete shaft?
