Replaced water pump on my vehicle. Everything went well but prior to replacing fan and shroud, I turned on the truck to check for leaks. Now I hear a knocking noise coming from the left side near the steering pump. I checked the tension pulley and everything seems tight.

Good evening,

Remove the belt and see if the noise is still there.

Lets see if it is related to a belt driven component or it is internal in the motor.

Okay, the next morning I turned on the truck and the knocking was gone. I have been driving it for a day or two and the sound hasn't returned. All fluids are full so I'm not sure why the sound is gone, so I guess I'll consider this case closed. Thanks for your input.

If you did not find anything, it cannot fix itself.

I would plan on it returning at some point. Keep a close ear on it for the noise.
