Is this code related at all? I know the EGR, and intake issues can cause this but what about this code? P148e

Hi,

That code is related to the variable camshaft tuning (VCT). Absolutely, that can cause a knocking when first started. In most cases, looking for a sticking or stuck VCT solenoid valve caused by contamination. See pic below for what I'm questioning.

Interestingly, I'm not showing that code for this vehicle. By chance, are you outside of the US? Let me know because that may be why.

Take care,

Joe

I am in the US, I am aware of the knock on Prius, they all do it, mostly due to intake needing update, EGR and cooler. But never seen this code before. But it's there. Where is the VCT on these cars if they have one?

Hi,

I checked in a different manual and found the same thing. I have no idea why it isn't listing it.

As far as the code is concerned, again, it doesn't even show that on this vehicle. See pic below and you'll see what I mean. Also, the pics above are accurate for the control valve.

Let me know.

Joe

See pics below. That is from two different professional manuals. I wish I had a better answer for you, but I'm not sure which direction to go.

Yes, I see it now. They changed it in 2012 to the water pump code.
