2000 Kia Sportage 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

The fan for my internal air and heat is squeaking rather loud and has shut down every now and again, I would like to know why it is doing so and how I can access it to repair it. I really don't want to tear the dash apart if it can be avoided. Thank you.

BLOWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY
Removal
Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect positive battery cable and remove battery. Remove blower motor assembly drain hose. Remove glove box. Remove 5 screws holding right instrument panel lower trim panel and remove panel. Remove center console upper side cover to gain access to instrument panel lower support. Remove instrument panel lower support. Disconnect fresh/recirculated air cable from inlet duct bellcrank.
Disconnect blower motor assembly electrical connectors. Pull passenger-side carpet away from floor board to gain access to firewall cover. Remove firewall cover under passenger-side floor carpet. Remove 2 top bolts and 2 bottom nuts securing blower motor assembly to bulkhead. Remove blower motor assembly.
Installation
NOTE:Fresh/recirculated air door binding may occur if blower motor assembly mounting bolts and nuts are overtightened.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure there are no wiring harnesses, connectors or control cables that could obstruct proper installation. Tighten mounting bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
