1996 kia sportage 4wd --has a rubbing sound in the right front end while only in 4wd noise stops in 2 wheel drive - the very next day tried to take out of 4wd and 4wd light went off but the right front axil was still in 4wd and suv went about 50 feet and a thump wizzing sound occured at that point the kia was back in 2dw, what do think may be the problem in the 4wd? 2wd drives fine no noise and the only noise is on the left front side in 4wd

If the brake feels fine, check the hub for damage. It should be the cam lock style hubs and they cannot be shifted into 4x4 unless stopped. If they don't unlock, they probably need to be serviced or replaced. If the brake feels funny, check the wheel bearings to see if they have excessive lateral movement causing the hub not to disengage. If both areas are ok, you might have front axle damage. The front axle only engages in 4x4 mode.
