A mechanic dropped a bolt into my engine, realized it after he started my engine up. Told me they would have to replace my engine, but ended up sending the left cylinder to a mechanics shop to smooth out the dimples? That was 6 months ago, I kept taking my truck back because the engine didn't sound right, last month, the shop told me it was a sticky lifter, but has nothing to do with my engine? Don't believe that. Then they told me to get rid of my truck. Why? Well now I know, my engine blew 2 weeks after they told me to unload my vehicle. Would the bolt that was dropped in my engine cause my engine to blow? I had to replace my engine. Would they be responsible?

Hi Donna K,

It is possible the bolt caused some damage that resulted in the engine failing prematurely. The bolt could have comprssed the piston edges which caused the piston rings to be stuck and that would explain the abnormal noise that you referred back to them.

However the cause of the engine failing has to be determined if it is related to the bolt getting to the cylinders.

Do you have any idea of type of damage that occurred to the engine?
