Hi, I just bought a 2000 Kia Sephia. It has low miles and appears to be in good mechanical condition. It was doing fine until this morning. I went to run an errand and when I got back in the car after, the radio and air wouldn't come on although the car started up fine. When I got home and put it in park it made a very loud scraping sound. I took it back into drive and into park again and the same loud noise happened. So I turned it off. When I restarted, everything was OK. I am now very concerned about what happened. Do you have any insight? Just went out to try it again. Loud scraping noise when put into park and no air and radio. Please help.

Hi Mustardmoon,

Thank you for the donation.

There could be two separate problems so we will tackle them individually.

Park vehicle on level ground.
Turn engine off.
Move shift lever to Park.
Release handbrake.
Rock/push vehicle forward or backwards, does the vehicle move both ways? If yes, the trans parking gears could be faulty.

For the radio and air, it could be a blown fuse or a bad igniton switch. Check all fuses to confirm they are good. Power interruption would result in them not working and the parking noise could be related if the noise is from something electrical.
