I just bought a 2002 Kia mini van. My question is how do you read the two dipsticks?

on the transmission dipstick there are no markings at all, so how do you know if the fluid level is correct?

On the oil dipstick there is a low line and then a F, so should it be between those two?

Hi dn4192,

There should be markings on the dipstick, unless it has been changed. There should be the wordings " COLD" and HOT with either crossed sections to denote the range or 4 holes as markers.

You are correct about the oil level reading. As long as the oil is within the F and low, it should be ok but I would recommend having the oil level nearer to the F line rather thean the low line.

There is nothing on either side of the transmission dip stick and doesn't appear that there ever was.

Some dpstick uses curves as markers. If the dipstick is flat witn no markings, either it has broken off or is not the corrct one.
