Engine problem
2004 Kia Rio 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 55000 miles

I have been told our drain plug is missing and this is why our engine froze up on us. Dealership that did last oil change (Dec. 5,2007) says it's not possible to have the oil plug missing and for us to not have had problems before our engine froze.

My husband was driving our vehicle and he said it felt like something fell out from the bottom of the car and then oil light and engine light came on and it stalled. We did not have any indication of a problem before this. I told them if I did have a problem I would have taken it in immediately cuz it is under warranty.

Would it have been possible if the drain plug was loose for it not to have shown problems till now? Have you ever heard of this happening.

I appreciate your response to my question.

Sincerely,

Arlette Trumble

If it was loose you would notice oil on the ground probably and it would have feln out within the weak unless it was tightened half-ass and it finally vibrated loose and fell out, which would be the only possible explantion for it falling out unless the threads on it are bad, and youd need the plug to see that.
