New question to "the alternator is not installed correctly. Im assuming when the engine was replaced the mechanic who installed it left out a spacer for the alternator and when the alternator is now being installed when the bolts are tightened the alternator case is being distorted causing it to fail. I have seen this before."

If the spacer is installed, will I need a new alternator
or is it ruined by the incorrect installation?

Yes your alternator should be fine, you just need to put the right spacer in place.

I called the Kia dealer and asked for the
alternator spacer and the parts clerk told
me he had no idea what I was talking about.
Help!

What part do I ask for?

Funny thats what I always called it. Your gonna have to bring it to your local shop and show it to them if possible. Take a picture or draw a diagram. Because some of these idiots have no idea. Or you can go to the parts place have them pull a alternator and show them what it is that u need
