1999 Other Kia Models check engine light

I have a 1999 Kia Clarus, UK spec. I can't find a Haynes or Chilton's manual for the vehicle to do any troubleshooting. If I could find a manual I would probably be able to fix it.
My check engine light came on. Someone told me the problem was in the emissions area.I am not very familiar with this area. I have checked the gas cap, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Please help!

If the check engine light is on, most nationally recognized parts stores will scan it for free and tell you where the problem lies. If it deals with the evap system, (a leak) have the system fogged to locate the leak. Otherwise, you will go crazy trying to find the problem.
