None of the buttons had any effect. I replaced the fob battery and there was no improvement. I tried my wife's fob and it also failed. At that point I assumed it was the keyless entry receiver. Strangely, the next day, both fobs again worked fine. So, I'm now concluding it's an intermittent keyless receiver or possibly just a bad connection. So, my questions are: 1) does this sound right? 2) Where on the vehicle will I find the receiver? 3) Does replacing the receiver cause reprogramming that requires special equipment, 4) any suggestions?
In advance, thank you.

Hello,

It does sounds like an intermittent issue with the keyless system.
When any of the components gets replaced, the vehicle needs to be programmed to accept the new components. Otherwise, it will not work. It can even trigger the anti-theft system and keep the vehicle from starting at all. Programming does require special equipment.

The problem with intermittent issues is they are hard to pinpoint. Even if you take it to the dealer and it does not duplicate the issue, they won't be able figure out which component is causing the issue.

The keyless module is located in the cargo area (I have attached diagram below for your reference)
It will be worth checking for any loose connection. However, you do not want to unplug the module as it can trigger the anti-theft system.

You might want to wait and see if this issue becomes frequent. As it is possible that for some interference the keyless system did not work and that might not happen again.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Thank you! Great advice, particularly the cautions. I'm a capable home mechanic, but a newbie to digital car systems. Also, your turnaround was unbelievable! If it recurs, I'll try to get it to a shop ASAP.

I'm very much appreciate your help.

Steve
