Key will not turn

It was away for 2 months, and the battery drained. Charged battery to 12.4 Returned and when tried to start car noticed steering wheel was not locked and key would not turn in ignition. The message was "remove key, turn steering wheel, restart." This did not work. Key will not turn out of locked position, steering wheel remains unlocked.

Make sure the transmission is fully in the park position. Also, take a look through this link to see if it helps in any way.
