Key stuck in the ignition in the on position

It turns to the start and run positions. It just wont turn back to the lock position to release the key. I don't see anything visibly wrong with the shifter. Help

Hi Jen, Welcome to 2CarPros. Lets see if we can help you out.

There are generally 2 reasons you cant turn the key back to the lock position.

1: You have and issue with your shifter that is preventing it from locking into park. It could be bent or just worn out.

2: The key cylinder has fallen apart internally and the tumblers are hung up stopping it from going.

The easier and cheaper of the 2 would be to replace the key cylinder. Here is a guide to help with that and it also has a few things you can try to get it unstuck:
