It started as occasionally my key wouldn't unlock the door. Then more frequently. I had 2 more fobs made and replaced the batteries but now none of them work. They all still start the car but I'm wondering how long that will last. It seems like the receiver of the signal has failed but I'm at the end of what I know. Can I replace whatever receives the signal? If I can, will it then need to be programmed? What is it called? Where can I get it other than the dealer?

Hi,

There is an "RKE" (remote keyless entry) receiver on the vehicle. However, before replacing it, testing should be done because it also includes the body control module (BCM).

Now, if you look below, I was able to find a technical service bulletin related to the issue you are having. I attached it for your review and inspection. See pics 1 to 7. Note, the new key must be registered and recognized by the receiver before it will work.

Starting with pic 8, I attached the general diagnostics for the RKE circuit. These test will require a scan tool that is able to communicate with different modules, so that may make it difficult if you don't have one.

Take a look through what I attached and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Take care,

Joe
