My key fob for my truck stopped working. First I tried replacing the battery but still did not work. Next I was going to have it checked at Autozone but someone stole the tester so I bought a new fob. Now it does not want to even start to program. Is there a receiver in the truck that could be bad? If so where would I find it. Any help would be welcome.

You need to have both fobs re-programmed at the same time. Is this a no start problem or just a fob issue with door locks?

You need to have both fobs to do a re-code. Often if you use a genuine and a non genuine fob together for some reason I have never been able to work out, you will often have problems. What procedure are you using to do the program?

I have been trying to program in a new key fob without success. According to the directions with the new fob it says to turn the ignition key from off to on eight times in ten seconds leaving it on ending the eighth time. Then wait twenty seconds and push any button on the new fob. So far no luck. Someone said to try disconnecting the battery cables for ten minutes, but I have not tried that yet.

Why would a key fob stop working? I replaced the battery but still no working. Could it be the fob itself or is there something else on the truck itself that needs replaced? I did not know if this is a question that would be something in your area.

Do you have more than one fob? If so and it works, the "bad" one is either a bad fob or the fob is no longer recognized by the vehicle. If you only have the one fob then it could also be a problem in the receiver in the truck. Hard to say which it is without testing.

The easier check is to take the fob to AutoZone and get it tested there. It is free and fast.
