Jump post terminal hot? Can you tell us more information? The significant temperature difference between the upper and lower wires at the jump post terminal in your 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee suggests that there might be an issue with the electrical connection or a component drawing excessive current.

Here are a few potential causes to consider:

Poor Connection: A loose or corroded connection at the jump post terminal can create resistance, leading to increased heat generation. Ensure all connections are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.

High Current Draw: If there is a component or system in the vehicle drawing an excessive amount of current, it can cause the wires to heat up. This could be due to a failing component, a short circuit, or an electrical fault.

Overloaded Circuit: If the jump post terminal is supporting too many accessories or aftermarket additions that draw a lot of power, it can cause the wires to overheat.

Faulty Charging System: While the battery voltage of 13.8 volts appears normal, there might still be a problem with the charging system. Check the alternator output and ensure it is functioning correctly.

To address the issue, follow these steps:

Inspect Connections: Carefully inspect all the connections at the jump post terminal, battery terminals, and other electrical components. Clean any corrosion and ensure all connections are tight and secure.

Check Current Draw: Use a multimeter to measure the current draw on each wire connected to the jump post terminal. This will help identify if any component is drawing excessive current.

Verify Accessories: If there are aftermarket accessories connected to the jump post terminal, ensure they are not drawing more current than the wiring can handle. Consider relocating some accessories to reduce the load on the terminal.

Diagnose Charging System: Verify that the alternator is charging the battery correctly and maintaining a steady voltage. An underperforming alternator can cause electrical issues.
