Steering problem
1998 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

im replacing my steering box and had a few questions. How do I make sure the pitman arm is centered on the sector shaft? And what is the proper way to bleed the system when im don? Ive heard about 20 different ways but I cant find one for this vehicle. Thanks for your time.

Hope you get this in time to belp. The pitman arm is indexed with a large groove. But you can get them off by 1/4 turn. Your new gear box should come centered. So I would suggest leaving your wheels straight and when you pull the arm have it besides your new box and just transfer straight across. Also once installed you can hold the box and pull the arm the same distance both sides to tell. When filling just fill the pump till it shows full when cold. Start the vehicle and fill as the pump begins to fill the box and circulates. Then turn the wheel from lock to lock and just keep adding and checking and adding and lock to lock and adding? Sorry but this is the only way I have ever done a jeep and it will work its own air out just keep up with filling till its warm and reading correctly. Please vote and support this site thanks Curt
