This Jeep lost oil pressure, and in taking it apart, the oil pump drive was broken where it connects to the shaft that drives the oil pump. The oil pump had not seized, neither was there any evidence of wear (scarring, color change). The oil pickup screen was clear. This engine was reportedly rebuilt about 2 years ago. I replaced the oil pump, main bearings and rod bearings and I still have low oil pressure. (When the engine is cold the max is 30 psi and as it warms the pressure drops close to zero at idle.) Any ideas?

Did you plastigauge or somehow check your bearing clearances?

No. I used standard bearings, and the old main bearings looked like they didn't need to be replaced. The engine was tight after the repair, the crank was very hard to turn.

Was your oil pressure low when you first started the motor? If the crank was "real" hard to turn on assembly, that is not a good sign. That's why they use plasti-gauge so you know what your clearances are for sure.
