I have just purchased a 1991 wrangler yj with bad rear axle. The Spider gears sheared and damaged the ring and pinion along with the case assyembly. The axles are not damaged. I am looking at the metal tag on the housing and it says 4 11. The front has a tag that says 4 10. If I go out and look for another axle, is a 4 11 ok or do I need to match the 4 10 in the front? I am pretty sure with all my research that the rear is a Dana 35 and the front is a Dana 30. I am very new at this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. JJ

Ok 91 jeep wrangle was equiped with the dana or spicer 35, All 4cyl's came with the 4.11 gear ration in the rear. The sixes for the most part came with the 3.73 ratio. When you call the parts folks whoever you talk to should be able to get you exactly what you needI know we sell a complete rear diff with the gears axle tubes and usually the break backing plate with axles for around $595 used. Also you can but just the diff housing but unless you have a shop you will have to get your tubes pressed into it before it will be of any use to you. The 4.10 and the 4.11 are basically the same it is just a toothe count on the rings are different. The transfer case is the ratio that combined with the front and rear diffs that mater. You cannot place say 3.73 gears in the front with 4.11 in the rear or binding will occur casing extensive damage.
