1990 Jeep Wagoneer V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 1990 jeep wagoneer that wont charge the alt. Is good I have had checked, there seems to be no external reg. And it wont charge. Is there a computer or something else that allows the charging to work? It will dis charge when lights are turned on but wont charge? Help me Thank you, Jim

The voltage regulator is internal on the alternator. If it won't charge then your wiring may have a broken piece in it or a fusible link. The links are usuall y found by the starter and it's a smaller wire going to a larger one. It could have shorted and burnt causing the battery to not get a charge. A pro can put a guage on the cable to see if is charging as well as a volt meter on the battery. If this has a 2 wire going to it- a large one and small one, check the small one to see if it has power it's the exciter for the alternator and should have soemthing going through it.
